Dear OMSD Families,
My name is Nelson Favela, and I am truly honored to serve as part of our alternative education program. With many years in education, I have had the privilege of working closely with students, families, and educators to create supportive learning environments where every child has the opportunity to grow and succeed.
Throughout my career, I have seen the incredible impact that individualized support, strong relationships, and high expectations can have on students. Alternative education holds a special place in my heart because it provides students with the opportunity to reset, refocus, and rediscover their strengths in a setting designed to meet their unique needs.
I am deeply committed to ensuring that every student feels valued, capable, and empowered. I believe that when we meet students with compassion, structure, and consistency, they can overcome challenges and achieve meaningful success, both academically and personally.
I look forward to partnering with you, building strong connections, and celebrating the growth and accomplishments of our students together.

Dear SOAR Academy Families,
My name is Emily Winebrenner, and I am proud to serve as the Site Lead of SOAR Academy. It is truly an honor to be part of a school community centered on restoration and student success.
At SOAR Academy, we believe every student’s story is unique— filled with strengths, challenges, setbacks, and possibilities. We also believe that stories can be rewritten, and that setbacks often create meaningful opportunities for reflection and growth.
Our program is built on the understanding that, with the right support, structure, and encouragement, students can overcome challenges and make meaningful academic and social progress. Our goal is to provide a safe and structured environment where students take accountability for their actions, reflect on their choices, and build the skills necessary to make stronger decisions in the future.
My commitment is to create a compassionate environment where every student has the opportunity to grow, is supported with intention, and is reminded that each day is a fresh start. We believe in our students—even when they may struggle to believe in themselves.
Strong partnerships with families are essential to our success. I value open communication and collaboration, and I look forward to working alongside you to support your child’s growth and help guide them toward a successful future.
